Santa Clarita residents are warned to be on the lookout for a scam targeting festival goers, according to Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office officials: the “fraudulent ticket scam.”
Officials warned Santa Clarita residents against the “fraudulent ticket scam” in which con artists offer seemingly legitimate tickets to highly sought-after events.
As part of the scam, criminals post advertisements online offering tickets for sale to concerts, sporting venues, plays and other events. However, the tickets are not actually real tickets to the events.
Fraudsters use a variety of techniques to make the tickets appear legitimate, such as forging barcodes and logos of real ticket companies and selling duplicates of legitimate electronic tickets.
- Buy tickets from the box office, the event website or a well-known and authorized ticket broker.
- Double check that the web address of the ticket seller is authentic.
- Beware of classified ads, online or otherwise.
